In June, we were approached by the pastor of Acocks Green Baptist Church, Mr Graham George.

He required assistance and advice to allow him to expand the Food Bank service provided by the church and was struggling with sufficient Chilled & Frozen Food storage.

Pulling Together

Led by the Carter Coldstore team, we visited the site to survey and assess the situation.

It was decided there was sufficient space to accommodate two new cold rooms which would provide a significant increase in the storage on site. These rooms would need careful consideration in the construction phase due to the unusual layout of the site walls.

Following an internal discussion, it was then agreed the work would be carried out as a donation to the site and the Coldstore team set about discussing this with the supply chain to try and garner support. All primary materials for the room construction would be provided or manufactured by the Coldstore team including all panels, trims and channels.

The Carter Coldstore team carried out all works on site and critically to avoid unnecessary costs, our senior account management team volunteered their own time and labour to carry out the installation. This included both Scott Eustace and Peter Carter who together have over 70 years of experience in Coldstore construction. Works took a total of four days and were carried out during the hottest week on record in England with temperatures of over 36c recorded on site. Our sales and business support manager, Miss Sam Parris provided additional support work.

“On completion of the project, we received a wonderful thank you letter from the pastor in which he noted.

“Please pass on our grateful thanks to all at Carters for without this gift we would have thrown much food away but now we will surely use this gift to feed many in our community”.
